Summary:
A little balance here! These speakers can now be purchased for less than £70 in the UK. I've just replaced my Creative I-Trigue L3500 with these. I'm a committed audiophile and have spent thousands on my pursuance of the perfect sound (in true HiFi terms) but needed a pair of (computer driven) speakers that were reasonably accurate for monitoring purposes in terms of frequency response. OK, so I'm using an M-Audio Audiophile soundcard but even with this combination the Creative kit was seriously faulted (overblown in the bass and treble) - Logitech offerings I've tried were not much better. The Altecs are not perfect - it would be amazing if they were for the price! The Altecs do however possess a far flatter frequency response than most other PC driven speakers I've heard and tested. OK, so they don't do the bottom octave too well. What they do do however is provide a clean rendering of bass frequencies with almost no bass hangover (no doubt due to the intelligent loading of the bass drivers) and clean mid and treble (unless overdriven). In summary, if you're looking for a pair of speakers that produce a loud, uneven frequency response with overblown bass and treble - then buy Creative or Logitech offerings - however, if you want speakers with a reasonably flat response, can produce over 100dB output near field, possess excellent imaging and look superb (their finish is impeccable) - then buy the FX4021's. Most importantly, they sound good on almost any input material and as a result they really have no competition at their price (or well above it) They won't disappoint.

Pros:
Balanced frequency response. Bass is clean, mid is good and treble extends above the limits of normal hearing. Excellent build quality and finish. Superb value for money - PC based HiFi on a budget.

Cons:
Bass doesn't go as low as it could do - but at the price an you really complain?
