Conclusion

The Zen NX is really a great player for the money. It provides excellent sound quality when equipped with quality speakers or headphones and its large capacity should keep your listening repeat-free for days (and days, and days!) on end. If you frequently need to transfer files between computers, the Zen NX also serves as a portable hard drive, making it a very useful companion. I would definitely recommend the Zen NX to anyone looking for a portable player with large capacity. The hard drive makes it unsuitable for jogging or any activity where it will be subject to a lot of vibration, but when you are waiting for the bus or sitting on a plane it is very enjoyable to have around.

Pros

Attractive anodized aluminum finish
Hard drive based storage for literally days of repeat-free music
Included long-life Li-Ion rechargeable battery saves user from purchasing replacements
Doubles as an external USB 2.0 hard drive for transferring files (free software download required)
EAX capability for customizing sound preferences
Excellent sound quality

Cons

Included headphones are disappointing
MediaSource ripping functionality leaves much to be desired
MediaSource only way to copy mp3s off of Zen and is not available for download

I found this review very comprehensive and explanatory. It provided just the kind of information that I (as a newbie and prospective buyer) needed. Great job!

I'm guessing that the setting for speeding up or down play speed is for audio books.
