Software

The Tungsten T3 comes with an impressive array of software titles. The software includes all the usually Palm PIM apps such as the calendar, task list, address book, expense recorder, memo pad and notepad. Also included is the Adobe Acrobat Reader for the Palm, Kinoma movie player, a program for viewing photos, and the RealOne player. Some new items are the Bluetooth apps, which include Blueboard and Bluechat.

All the software of the T3 performed as expected. I have used most of it before when I reviewed the Tungsten E that ships with a similar software package. The only real difference is the ability to enlarge the screen and thus see more of what you are doing.

No doubt, the larger screen size is a major selling point for the T3! What is not explained in the literature is that many of the software programs included with the T3 don't support the larger screen area. This becomes apparent when you attempt to hide the graffiti writing area. Most of the apps on the T3 could not hide the graffiti pad. This is a shame since the main selling point of the T3 is the larger viewing area. A more thorough analysis revealed that only the following applications took full use of the larger screen area: Calendar, Contacts, Notepad, Documents to Go, Memos, Photos, Voice Memo, Kinoma Player, and Tasks. Of these, the Notepad can not be fully utilized in landscape mode.

Notepad

When you have the writing trails turned on, writing in the notepad can be very hard and confusing since the handheld has a hard time understanding the difference between graffiti writing and the notepad functionality. Turning off the writing trails fixes this problem easily. When in Landscape mode, you can't view the note in landscape. The graffiti writing area is always displayed. Although this doesn't bother me much, I would have liked to see all the software, including the notepad, take advantage of the landscape functionality.

I would like to know if the T3 has the same memory as the T5. That is, will the memory be wiped if I run the battery down all the way? I have a bad habit of doing this to my electronics.
