Testing

Here is a screenshot out of Nero Infotool. (It gives you some basic information and capabilities of the drive.)

The drive can handle just about every format with the exception of DVD Ram for both read and write. It cannot burn DVD-ram, or DVD-R/RW. However -R/-RW as previously mentioned, will be available in future updates, as it is already available in the form of a beta firmware release.

DVD+RW Test (Write)

The DVD+RW disc used was Nu-Tech's own 4X DVD+RW disc. The dips and spikes are from the controller performing in-burn analysis and optimization to guarantee the best possible burn speed.

DVD+RW Test (Read)

Read time on the DVD+RW was pretty much what I expected. It started out at roughly 3.4x, capped off at the end of the platter just over 8x, averaging around 6x. Since no in-burn optimizations are being performed you do not see spikes and dips in the data transfer test.

DVD+R Test (Write)

This was one thing I did not expect, for the first 500 MB of the drive, the burn process burned at 6X. However right when it hits the 500MB mark, it throttles up to 8x and holds around there until the end of the burning process. I can only assume during the first 500MB the data is buffered up then sent into full throttle during a DVD+R burn. The media used for the DVD+R Test were some Memorex 4x DVD+R. I've burned six of these discs, and they all seem to work well burned at 8X.

DVD+R Test (Read)

Not much change here from the DVD+RW transfer test. Similar results, starts off at about 3.4x, caps off around 8x, and averages at 6x.
