Transcend does not currently produce matched pairs of memory like many other manufacturers. However, they did send us two 256 MB sticks which we could use in a dual channel configuration. While matched pairs are guaranteed to run in dual channels, 99% of the time you can just purchase two sticks of the same exact memory and everything will work perfectly fine.
Like most other high speed memory, Transcend's PC4000 comes equipped with stylish heat-spreaders. These are silver colored aluminum and are attached via thermal pads and very hard-to-remove metal clips. The 256 MB sticks are single sided and composed of eight 32 MB chips.
This memory is guaranteed to run at speeds of 250 MHz, 500 MHz DDR (PC4000) with timings of 3-4-4-8 and a required voltage of 2.6 volts. The timings are the same as those used by Corsair's PC4000. However, Corsair states that their PC4000 requires 2.75 volts, while Transcend states their PC4000 requires 2.6 volts. Will the lower stock voltage give Transcend's PC4000 a little more headroom for overclocking? Let's find out.
