Inside the Case

Now that the case is sitting in front of me open, I am again struck by the enormity of the interior. This case should fit just about any motherboard you can throw at it. The mounting holes will go from a microATX all the way to the extended ATX. A nice feature, which I love seeing, is the labeling of the mounting holes for each particular motherboard form factor.

The other very obvious feature you will see inside the case is the side mounting of the hard drive cage. The cage is mounted such that the power and IDE cable connections will be facing you. I can see both good and bad points with HD's mounted in this fashion. Checking jumper settings will be far easier, along with general installation. It only becomes a problem when you go to hook up the power to these disks. Due to the large size of this case, the distance to the drive cage is a bit long. Unless you have a very long power cable, it could be iffy to get the power to the bottom device, or even the top one. I would recommend power extensions or even a power splitter to make up the distance and relieve some of the tension. Even when the cables do reach, they are dangerously close to the center mounted fan which would love to nick a power cable.

As with many cases that are produced these days, this one includes front USB connectors and all the standard lights and buttons on the front. The power button serves double duty since the power light is a part of the button. I did find it hard to initiate a reset, since the switch is not only small, but recessed as well. Although you shouldn't have to use it very often, it would be nice to be able to easily depress it. Also located on the front is the temperature sensor readout which is extremely small and hard to see unless you are right up on it.
