Introduction

If you are looking for a large case but don't want something that is tall and massive, where do you go? Well, the folks at Maxpoint may have a solution for you. Their new "Voltron" series of cases are large and cavernous, yet won't tower over your desk, while the integrated fan controller will ease the assault on your ears.

First Impressions

The latest case coming from Enermax is billed as an "aerodynamic mini server case." Although I am uncertain why anyone would need an aerodynamic case, except for looks, I won't begrudge them for it. Since most cases these days are becoming flashier and brighter, it is hard to differentiate any one product from another. From the looks of this case, they may have been able to do just that without the use of lights or other overly "in your face" styling.

In terms of styling, Enermax has gone with a rounded look for this case. There are no right angles anywhere. This gives the case a very interesting look. Besides the noticeable lack of right angles, the obvious impression of this case will be how large it is. The extra size becomes apparent when looking at the case from the side. It is a full 21" deep. This case will support what is labeled as an extended ATX form factor which measures 12" x 13". That is a big motherboard! Since most of us use standard ATX form factors, this case should provide plenty of room for just about any board.

Even though this case has differentiated itself with its shape, this doesn't mean that it is completely lacking in those little extras we have become so accustomed to. The most obvious feature on this case is probably the best hidden. What I am referring to is the side blowhole. This case, like so many these days, comes with a side-mounted fan. What makes this fan different is that the outer ring of the fan mount actually operates as a rheostat. By turning the dial, you are able to adjust the side fan's speed.

Further inspection of the front will also show that the dual USB ports are flush with the front bezel. It may not seem like much, but if you own or use a USB pen drive, you will find this case incredibly easy to use with them. The lack of a recess enables most pen drives to easily plug in and be removed. This is a definite plus since these tiny drives are becoming so ubiquitous.
