Photo Comparison

Below you can compare shots taken with the Kodak EasyShare DX7440 (left) and Canon PowerShot A80 (right). All shots were taken in AUTO mode unless otherwise noted. Each camera was set to the equivalent of 'Normal' color mode (as opposed to 'High' or 'Vivid'). In some of the shots, you will notice significant differences, this is because the shots were taken on different days with each camera. The DX7440 shots were taken with partly cloudy skies, whereas the A80 shots were taken with almost totally blue skies. You may click on the thumbnails below to view the unaltered, full size images.

Overall the shots taken by the DX7440 look pretty good. You will notice that there is some sharpness lost due to the aggressive noise reduction algorithm used, as I mentioned previously. Again, despite having such an aggressive noise reduction system, you will still get noise sometimes, as seen in the first picture. I can't totally discredit Kodak though, as most of the other images are relatively noise-free! Color reproduction is up to par, though I'm not sure I would say Kodak's "Color Science Chip" is anything special.

:o I would just like to say with the features you have just listed, I still think my 7430 is much better, and with the memory card it can hold approximately 15 mins of video

If you are going to have comparisons to another camera, do it under the same lighting conditions. Tha Canon was shot during primarily blue sky shots, and many of the Kodak shots were during overcast.
