Usability

Let's talk ergonomics. Having volume, microphone and surround control at your fingertips is an excellent feature and is infinitely more convenient than riffling through your machine's software control panel while in the middle of a game. But, I often found the large size (about the size of a Tootsie Roll) and battery-laden heft of the controller cumbersome. The length of cord running from the ear-cup to controller is also too short in my opinion. I constantly yanked the controller off my desk and found the metal retaining clip overall pretty useless unless I wanted the heavy little thing pinned to my T-shirt collar. A small alligator clip would have been handier and more versatile. However, the 8-foot working length of the cord was plenty long and I had no problems reaching my inputs/outputs.

My one real gripe with these headphones is the fit. The ear-cups are covered in a soft, thin, faux leather plastic skin. While they are well padded, they tend to get warm and a bit sweaty after an hour or so of use. I prefer the velour type of ear pads to the ones found here. I was also, at first, concerned by the tight pinch the headband placed on my ears. Luckily the metal headband is easily adjustable and you can loosen it up to fit an enormous melon such as mine. The headset is lightweight considering that it is a full ear-cup design, but they are far from featherweights and do get heavy with extended use. After an hour or two I had to give my ears a rest to let them cool down and retain their original shape. Unfortunately, for such amazing sounding earphones, I was under impressed with their comfort.

Conclusion

I can't say enough good things about the sound quality of these headphones. Gaming, music, movies...they can handle them all. The versatility of the surround effect is the outstanding feature of this headset, without a doubt. I'm still amazed at how many previously unheard, minute sound nuances I picked up within games I have been playing for years. If only these headphones were slightly more comfortable, I'd never take them off. At $99 MSRP, these babies are not for the small-time gamer...or one who's prone to temper tantrums. Chucking these monsters at the wall after getting pwned will cost you. They may not feel like a hundred bucks, but boy do they sound like it.

Pros

Excellent sound quality for all media
Exceptional for gaming use
Adjustable surround effect feature
High quality and stylish
Great microphone

Cons

Uncomfortable after long periods
Short wired remote cord
Require a battery
A tad pricey
