Conclusion
The FX6021's sound fantastic. For simply listening to music, you would be hard pressed to find a better set of 2.1 speakers. The clarity of sound that comes from the 6 pairs of 1" drivers is, quite simply, amazing. Unfortunately because they are 2.1 speakers, some movie buffs and gamers may be disappointed with the lack of surround sound capability. The tiny wireless remote is an excellent inclusion into the space saving speaker package!just make sure you have clear line of sight to the infrared receiver located on the controller. Altec Lansing pushes the deal further by including high quality speaker cables with detachable extensions and by offering extra input ports for game consoles and other peripherals.
Overall I really loved these speakers. In the end I had a hard time coming up with any seriously negative comments, until I looked at the MSRP of these speakers. $299 from the Altec Lansing website seemed a bit high to me, especially for 2.1 speakers. For not much more you can get a set of Z-680s and have a 5.1 set up that really kicks. Further web snooping revealed that these speakers can be found for prices more in the $215 range, which is much more reasonable. However, there is a reason for the high price, as these speakers look and sound fantastic. For the fashion conscious and space-constrained audiophile, you can't go wrong with the FX6021s.
Pros
Great Looks Excellent sound quality Wired & Wireless Remote Additional sound inputs for game consoles Won't take up your whole desk Cable extensions included (8ft + 8ft)
Cons
Will put dent in pocketbook Wireless remote signal receiver located on wired controller 2.1s aren't the best choice for watching movies
