Conclusion

When it comes to portable storage, it is hard to beat a good USB drive. When they were first introduced into the market place, they were a little bulkier and even a lower capacity drive would cost a pretty penny. Today, the market has grown and the products have matured. The 512 MB Corsair Flash Voyager we tested today can be found for around $60 with the 1 GB version coming in around $100.

The Flash Voyager is Corsair's first offering in the USB drive market and I must say they did a fantastic job. The drive is of average size, and while it can't compete with the tiny Crucial Gizmo! there isn't much to complain about. The performance of the Voyager is top notch and competes with the best. It is almost two and a half times faster than the Gizmo!

However, one of the most interesting, useful and unique features of the Voyager is its water resistance. You won't have to worry about losing your data when you get caught in the rain or carelessly leave the drive in your pocket when you wash your clothes. Heck, I think I may even go on some sort of geeky under-water expedition with this thing! And let's not forget the shock resistance of the drive. If you are out jogging and the drive falls out of your pocket, you need not worry about it breaking (if you can find it)!

Throughout my time with the Voyager, I only had a couple of almost meaningless gripes. One is that the rubber shell will attract a little bit of dust when in your pocket, but this is nothing to call home about. There is also the potential problem that the rubber ring may be weak but it was never a problem for me. Finally, the only other problem was the original cap which was a little loose but was already being fixed by Corsair. I wanted to mention this again because it shows Corsair's dedication to providing the best possible product.

Corsair has entered the USB drive market with a bang. The Flash Voyager boasts some impressive features with its durable rubber shell, water resistance and security software as well as top notch performance and a ten year warranty. In fact, I was so impressed by Corsair's first offering, that I feel it deserves an Editor's Choice award. If you are in the market for a USB drive, the Corsair Flash Voyager should be at the top of your list.

Pros:

Durable rubber shell
Water resistant
Shock resistant
Great performance
Security software
Bootable

Cons:

Rubber ring could be stronger
Rubber material attracts dust

I haven't had a flash drive yet but I think it'd be useful, maybe after I upgrade I'll buy one or wait till my birthday.
