Installation

For Pentium 4 systems, installation is a breeze using the standard bracket that should have come installed on your motherboard. Just place the two aluminum clip supports into the standard heatsink mounting bracket and screw the heatsink into place. Make sure you don't over-tighten things, you just need consistent contact between the heatsink and the CPU's heatspreader.

Some motherboards are incompatible with the Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu so you should check their webpage before you buy one. They have a list of any offending boards so if yours is not listed, you should be ok to use this heatsink. I installed the 7000B-Cu on an Intel 865 board as well as a DFI LanParty PRO875B without any issues. I also know that it installs fine on both the Asus P4PE and P4C800-E boards as well.

Another factor to consider when installing this heatsink is the weight of the unit. Intel rates the maximum weight for a heatsink on the standard bracket should be 450 grams or less and this cooler weighs in at 755 which is quite a large difference. I've never heard of anyone, including myself, having any trouble with mounting bracket failure or some other catastrophic event, but you should keep that in mind when making a purchasing decision. As long as you are careful when installing the cooler and when moving your case around, you should be fine.
