SanDisk

To start the show off, we roamed around trying to look official. We managed to stumble into SanDisk's display of their multiple memory products for this year. One of which is a module specifically designed for the new Sony PSP, officially introduced at CES 2005. Of course MP3 players are a huge deal this year with everyone and their brother entering the market. SanDisk displayed their line of flash media players as well as thumb drives and multiple format card readers.

Tom Arnold

We then saw Tom Arnold playing a fishing video game. What does Tom Arnold have to do with the largest consumer electronics show in North America? Damed if I know but he was here and he was fishing!digitally.

Shuttle

Shuttle was showing off their newest small form factor machines. The new XPC case is their spotlight product featuring a dual PCI-E motherboard and a space conscious internal layout. The shuttleX also made an appearance and sports multiple front I/O ports. ShuttleX machines were also featured in a Need for Speed Underground demo area where we took a few minutes to race and check out the sweet Logitech MOMO race wheels that were attached.

Ok - here is the oblig. question of the year.... "Does it run Linux". Say it with me... Say it repeatedly to EVERY hardware vendor you encounter. "Does it run Linux". Companies like nVidia and Creative (to name just a few) need to get with the program...

Hey, look out for Kiss technology there. They've got a DVD/80GB HDD/MP3/streaming combo with an Ethernet port, which runs its own markup language, KML. If you own one, you can access the Kiss portal (or one of the other portals you can put in as the firmware is easily hackable) and play games on it etc. You can also access the portal remotely, sign in, look through the TV program schedule, and have your own device back home record a TV show. Has something like 1000 channel schedules in different countries on the portal.

Our second day in Vegas for CES, and our first day on the actual show floor was pretty much what I expected: mountains of new gadgets, people in suits staring at your name tag and scantily clad models trying not to get angry as they are repeatedly photographed.

We started our excursion on opening day in the upper levels of the South Hall. Big name companies like ATI, nVidia, AMD, Logitech, and HP were showcasing anything and everything they could fit into their floor space."

Tom Arnold fishing! That was some neat pole he was using. The pole must have been a wireless type since the reel didn't have a rod to it. Did the interface of the reel work well with the game? What was the game called anyways? Anyone know?

Brian & Brad, You have came along way this year. Congrats on a job well done. The girls don't do much for me. The next show in L.A. I'll have to petition for somer guy models. Bellagio is a great place to be able to attend any function I find them quite organized. MP3 Players are really big in Calif. We bought 3 for Xmas and will watch for your updates. There is always something better. Good job guys!

What is up with the slanted keyboard on the phantom thing - the mouse looked like it was underneath. That doesnt seem to be a useable setup - could you explain that?
