The Cars of CES

In addition to computers, MP3 players and peripherals galore; CES had a huge convention hall dedicated to automotive techno-geekiness. I tried to take as many pictures of the various cars as I could. Some were display models featuring way out stereo mods and sophisticated LCD and PC integration. Some of the cars were just there because they were amazing rides. Either way, there were enough ass-kickin' autos to suit most any taste whether ye be a geek or a gear-head.

I happen to be both a geek and a gear-head. And while my gear-headedness sways more towards vintage BMWs, I was very excited to see this Caddy hearse right as I walked in the door. When I was 16, I almost bought a '65 Cadillac hearse. This would have been a nice first car, no? Check out the deck full of subs custom fitted by Pro Sound.

A bit on the grocery-getter side, this Dodge Magnum was not my cup of tea. But, I wouldn't mind sitting in the back seat for a few minutes with some decent Drum and Bass a blarin'. Who needs a Hemi?

Now this is the way to get around CES! Full on luggage racks, chrome Maltese cross spinner rims and no walking. This is about as bad assed as a Segway gets.

You might think that this is the ugliest Hummer H2 you've ever seen.

You would be wrong.

Now, for some fine Teutonic engineering: This is more up my alley! This super hot blacked out Audi A4 was probably my favorite car there. The in-dash DVD system complimented it nicely. I know I'm dissin' my beloved BMWs, but the titanium silver M3 that was parked next to it was just a tad less sharp than the A4.

This Infiniti FX45 looked cool, in an understated sort of way. The stock wheels painted gloss black added a nice non-bling touch. Doesn't it look like David Hasselhoff should be driving it?

There were several Scion xBs floating around. These boxy little things look pretty decent with some upgraded wheels and tasteful bodywork.

YELLOW TRUCK!!!

Now this MINI Cooper had some serious junk in the trunk. The rear seats are pretty worthless anyway.

A sharp looking Nissan 350Z. And you can't tell from the pictures, but just a few feet away, Las Vegas strippers were handing out free passes to their club. I was a little frightened.

For some reason, someone found it necessary to spend waaaay too much time customizing these golf carts. Sure, who wouldn't want to cruise around the course in one of these? It's just that the battery would die from all the neon long before you'd reach the 18th hole.

At last, some OLD cars! This lovely Chevy BelAir was a showstopper. The amazing engine work alone was worth the walk around the show floor for me. Not nearly as nice as the Chevy, the Volkswagen Beetle did pack a few secrets. Custom-made speaker consoles lined the rear seat well, while three LCDs will entertain your passenger as you sputter down the road.

Ah Paris! Well, that's what these Smart cars make me think of. You can't hurl a bottle of wine or a chunk of cheese in Paris without hitting one of these. Still, they would be perfect for New York City, so long as you never wanted to get a date.

And finally, if you want the ladies (or the men for that matter) to line up for a ride around the block you should be driving one of these. A Lamborghini Murcielago in sleek gloss black might do the trick. Or possibly a red hot Porsche Carrera GT is more your style. If those aren't enough, perhaps you are more suited to the Ferrari Modena in bright yellow. These cars had little in the way of tech-mods!but then again, they don't really need them, do they?
