id Software Special Presentation

We assumed that id Software's special presentation was going to be about Quake4 single player, and unlike our assumptions about NVIDIA's special presentation, it turned out we were right. In case you're wondering, yes, we are going to keep ragging on NVIDIA for the horrible things they made us sit through until we stop having nightmares. Anyways, there wasn't a whole lot that was said during the presentation, instead they actually spent a lot of the time showing us actual gameplay footage - Tim Willits (co-owner / lead designer, id Software) was behind the curtain actually playing the game while we sat and drooled. Here are some more movies:

Quake4 opening scene (10.9 MB)
Quake4 gameplay (17.9 MB)
Quake4 gameplay continued... (5.51 MB)

Quake4 marine becomes part Strogg (9.01 MB)
Quake4 marine becomes part Strogg continued... (11.1 MB)

Quake4 walker (7.21 MB)
Quake4 walker, death... (288 KB)

QuakeCon Keynote - John Carmack

John Carmack spoke directly to the audience for two hours, and he had a lot of interesting things to say - at least interesting to us geeks. Unfortunately, I didn't have a notepad handy, so I don't want to paraphrase him and end up being wrong. Instead, here's a link to a site who's writer was smart enough to write some things down, heh.

What I can recall is that when asked by an audience member what car(s) he drives, he said that he had just sold the last of his Ferraris (F50), and that he was dumbfounded why the guy he sold it to wanted all the turbos ripped out. He joked that it would suck for some Mustang with some nitrous to beat your Ferrari, what kind of exotic car can't beat a Mustang? Now he drives a BMW x5, because, you know! "It's difficult to transport rocket parts in a Ferrari."
