Conclusion

Logitech has done a fine job of creating a wireless gaming mouse and the G7 is a welcome addition to the family. The body of the G7 reverts back to the MX700 styling while retaining a similarly comfortable shape of its predecessor the MX1000. At the same time, the G7 leaps miles ahead in terms of technology and features. The 2000 DPI laser engine picks up the slightest movements and translates them to smooth pointer and game movement on the screen. There is little doubt in my mind that true laser mice will be standard hardware by this time next year.

With so many features, it's tough to know where to begin lavishing praise. If I had to pick my 3 favorites I would undoubtedly highlight the on-the-fly DPI adjustments, dual battery packs and lag-free performance of this wireless mouse. But it is tough to ignore the simple and comfortable feel, smooth gliding action and cleverly designed USB recharge cradle. Sadly, I was put off a bit by the clumsy performance of the middle scroll button.

As I said before, I've never liked wireless mice. Past issues with lag and battery life had me turned off to the idea of gaming via radio waves. I must admit, however, that my prejudiced attitude is now obsolete. The new G7 laser mouse is a lag-free fragging machine with battery power to spare. Check it out if you are looking for the freedom of untethered gaming.

Pros

On the fly adjustable resolution
Lag-free performance
Two included battery packs
Super slick gliding surface
Clever USB recharge cradle

Cons

Cumbersome middle mouse button
A better gaming mouse than workstation mouse
SetPoint software also installs Media Player 9 for some reason

One critique that has been brought to my attention by a friend of mine is that the G7 doesn't have a gripping surface on the sides of the mouse, unlike the G5. He has told me that the G7 can get a bit sweaty after prolonged gaming sessions...if you are prone to hand sweat.
