Introduction

Last evening Brian, Kurtis and I attended the CES Unveiled press-only event. An almost miniature version of the CES show floor, it gives industry representatives a slightly more intimate meeting space with members of the press. While Unveiled may have only had just over 70 exhibitors, the floor was packed with media analysts and reporters. Fortunately our credentials spoke for themselves and we were able to penetrate our way into the CES Unveiled inner circle! until we were distracted by the free buffet and vast expanse of dessert trays. After securing our press passes we were off to mingle with our industry counter parts.

Logitech

First on the list was Logitech, mainly because they were closest to the entrance. They have been quite generous in supplying demo products for our reviews, and just recently they sponsored over 30 prizes in our huge give-away. We briefly discussed our mutual love of their new G7 and G5 laser gaming mice with Logitech hardware reps. They were proudly showing off the newest G7 carbon fiber-look bodywork that will be available shortly. Non-slip rubber also lines the sides of the new G7 shell giving it a more aggressive gaming look. She also mentioned that each G5 rusty battleship paint job is hand-sanded, so no two look alike.

Also in the immediate pipeline from Logitech are their HS200 and HS210 Mobile Stereo headsets. These Bluetooth enabled headphones are hitting the market soon and will allow users of mobile phones with mp3 capabilities to switch between listening to music and phone conversations with ease. Notice the "Stereo" in the name, allowing you to really appreciate the music on your phone the way it was meant to be heard. The integrated microphone is barely noticeable on the ear cup. However, their biggest release of the show will be the Harmony media remote that Logitech promises will integrate every unit of your media system to obey one controller. We will get a full demonstration of the new model on the show floor.

ViewSonic

Our next stop was with ViewSonic! well, sort of. At the CES Unveiled there was not only free food, but free beverages, alcoholic and non, as well. A small sign next to the bar said "Thanks to ViewSonic for sponsoring the drinks for tonight." So when we saw their booth near the corner, we stopped by and thanked them and chatted for a few minutes. They had a few new products to show and they were also boasting 1ms response time LCDs, but those were just tech demos.

Of particular interest is the two desktop LCD displays with a 8ms response time. The VX2025wm is a 20" LCD with a native resolution of 1680x1050, 300 nits of brightness and a 600:1 contrast ratio with an estimated street price (ESP) of $449. The VP2330wb is a 23" LCD with 1920x1200 native resolution, 250 nits of brightness and a 800:1 contrast ratio with an ESP of $1,299. These displays are not yet available, but are supposed to be available in February. ViewSonic also launched two new projectors, the Cine1000 and PJ106D, as well as an LCD TV, the M3760w.

As for the Nethrone... I'd be scared that since I attached the monitor that it would fall and knock me in the head killing me instantly!

Man, that Nethrone looks sweet. Seriously. I'd want to get it more to a sitting-up-straight type orientation, but what's so cool about a desk? It's meant for writing in an accounting ledger under gaslight, not using a schweet laptop or desktop. And besides, it got kurtis a peek at boobies, and I'm all for that.
