AMD

Like Microsoft and Intel, AMD was showcasing anything and everything they could find that utilized their products. One partnership on display was the AMD/Alienware Starwars-themed desktop. Emblazoned with Yodas, Vaders and Stormtroopers it was running a game of Starwars Battlefront 2. Voodoo PC had also teamed up with AMD to build a liquid cooled chrome creation and a LCD front paneled HTPC. Dual core FX chips are the talk of the town and AMD Live! technology promises to deliver enhanced multi-media entertainment. Their new Alchemy Au1200 processor is specifically made for small, portable devices. And, like the Centrino line, it is a low-power consumption model. Many companies have devices featuring the Alchemy chip including Samsung with their Digital Photo Frame and Humax's PMP 4" wide 20GB handheld multi-media platform.

Intel

As mentioned in the AMD section, Intel had a huge showcase of other companies' products that featured their processors. New on the Intel agenda, other than their new logo and "Leap Ahead" slogan, is Viiv technology. Similar to AMD Live!, Intel is hoping to cash in on the multi-media hype using their dual core processors. Viiv technology should allow end users to experience high quality multimedia via their Intel based PC. Also new this year to the Intel show space was what we dubbed the "neon dingleberries" display. Basically just a bunch of tubes with glowing balls hanging from the ceiling, we couldn't quite figure out the point!other than just looking cool, we guess.

Samsung

Samsung was back with what seemed like an even larger show space than last year. They had a ton of phones to play with in addition to the newly redesigned YP series of handheld music and video players. One of those new players, the YM-P1 capable of satellite TV reception, was awarded an Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase award. And equally impressive was the massive 12 Innovation Honoree awards that were bestowed on various Samsung products.

But the bulk of their show space was dedicated to TVs. LCDs and Plasmas lit up the show floor. Samsung was eager to show off the worlds first 102" Plasma TV they had created last year. Right across from the 102" beast was the largest commercialized Plasma TV at 80" as well as the World's largest LCD TV at 82", understandably they were quite proud.
