Conclusion

I can't say that I was greatly disappointed by Microsoft's Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, but I wasn't greatly impressed by it either. Laser mice are the next level of input device technology and Microsoft hasn't kept up. While this mouse is a completely useful and well designed desktop mouse, the competition have incorporated better features, used higher standards and have introduced better products overall.

On the plus side, this mouse is completely comfortable and generally a pleasure to use, albeit a bit heavy. The magnifier utility is a handy feature for those users with poor vision!or who like to magnify things. Smooth tracking and easy gliding make this mouse a good choice for most desktop users but I wouldn't recommend it to any hardcore gamers.

It appears to me that Microsoft was so eager to jump into the laser mouse game that they didn't bother to take full advantage of the technology by creating a more robust laser engine. There is really no excuse not to have DPI switching like that seen with all of the competition, even Creative has it, and they're new to the whole mouse game... From the bland design cues to years-old styling of the USB receiver, the Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 feels more like an average wireless mouse than a leap forward. Shoving laser guts into an otherwise standard mouse does not a laser mouse make.

Pros

Smooth tracking and gliding
Nifty magnifying glass feature
Comfortable for desktop use

Cons

Not a good gaming mouse
Clickless middle scroll button
Weak range
No rechargeable batteries
Short on features

I bought the Microsoft wireless laser keyboard and mouse 6000 and after five months I can no longer get the mouse to move the pointer yet all other functins of the keyboard and the mouse work. And, no one has an answer for this problem. Yes, I plan to reurn the stuff ofr a refund.

I'm assuming you have tried putting new batteries in and refreshing the device's connection, right?
