Conclusion

The Transcend T.310 is an interesting product that struggles to differentiate itself in a market crowded with wannabes and look-alikes. The benefits of the player are limited to its great audio quality, portability, and battery life, but is it enough to push through the rest of the market? Sadly, while Transcend has made an excellent product, I believe it to be just another face in the crowd, and because there is nothing that really makes it "stand out," it may be short-lived and relegated to the halls of infamy.

This is not to say that you should simply skip the T.Sonic altogether. Several of the features that don't readily present themselves (like the ability to create a MS-DOS bootable partition) are a god-send for those who need a quick and easy way to update their system BIOS. Additionally, the ability to split the device into "Public" and "Private" partitions is a novel concept that competitors best consider adding to their product.

In all, the T.Sonic is what you make it: a simple audio player or a complex electronic filing cabinet... or both. The inherent beauty of the unit is its ability to stay away from the "one trick pony" marketplace that is dominated by the likes of the Creative Zen and Apple iPod players.
