Introduction
Transcend is certainly no stranger to the memory market or the consumer electronics market. Founded in 1988, their product portfolio boasts over 2,000 different memory products including system memory, flash memory, USB drives, portable hard drives, multimedia products and music players. With such an impressive history in the memory-related product field, it is no surprise that they would seek to join the ever-growing market for MP3 devices.
In this review, we'll be taking a close look at one of their newest products, the Transcend T.Sonic 310 - half MP3 player, half USB drive. Will this sleek little unit be good enough to go mainstream or will it fall through the cracks with all the other iPod wannabes?
First Looks
Packaging serves two functions: to display the product in an attractive manner and to protect the product from potential environmental hazards. The packaging for the T.Sonic was both functionally protective and clear in its presentation of what it contained. Nothing spectacular, mind you (Apple has everyone beat), but decidedly clear in its intent and contents.
