Introduction

One of the most trendy and great looking items in computer cases these days are most definitely UV reactive items. Be it power supply covers, coolant in water cooling, or wire sleeving, you must admit that UV items are here to stay. Vantec, realizing the popularity of UV items, and also producing very high quality fans, decided to put 2 and 2 together. They now have UV reactive fans. Does the Vantec quality carry over to this product? How do they compare to the competition? Read on and you shall see.

Four Crazy Fans

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door. Only this and nothing more." (The Raven, Edgar Alan Poe) No, it wasn't a raven out to get me, it was the good people over at brown (UPS) bringing me a package from Vantec, hurray. Upon receiving the package, I tore it open. Actually, I ate dinner, then took a picture of the package, and finally proceeded to open the package with care.

Inside the little box, I found four very colorful packages, each containing a Vantec Spectrum UV reactive fan. Vantec sent us four fans, each of a different color. There was a blue fan, an orange, green, and a clear fan. The packages of each were very jubilant, and labeled each fan's color, just in case you couldn't tell by looking at it *wink wink*. Each fan has a 3 pin connecter, and the fan uses all three wires. Yup, you can monitor the speed of these fans. There is a 3-4 pin power adapter included, and four mounting screws. These fans are 80mm, spinning at 2900 RPM, with 39 CFM, and 34 dBA.

Performance & Style

First off, I must say that even without a UV light, these fans look great. The colors are vibrant, and the fans are of great quality. When under a UV light, these fans blew me away. I never really had anything UV reactive in my computers before, and now that I have seen these fans, all I can say is "Wow." Each fan and color is very bright and colorful. Even with the inside lights on, the UV was shinning brightly.

I put Vantec's blue UV fan next to a Sunbeam UV fan. The Vantec fan was more of a turquoise blue while the Sunbeam was a a dark blue. Both, however, looked the same under UV light. Vantec's fans seemed to be higher quality also.

As for the speed and sound of the fans, I must say that they are pretty quiet, but nothing spectacular. Although for 34 dBA, they seem quieter than usual, and they still have a lot of airflow.

Conclusion

All in all, these are some very sweet fans. Pardon my technical speaking, but these kick ass. With a Rheobus or fanbus, you could lower the noise level a bit, and have a perfect addition to any case.

Pros

UV Reactive
Vibrant colors
Good airflow
Allows RPM monitoring

Cons

Can't think of any
