Half-Life 2 Episode 1

Our Half-Life 2 Episode 1 benchmark consists of a timedemo we recorded. In this timedemo Gordon emerges into the streets (which are glowing with HDR) to see a fight between some Combine soldiers and a large ant lion along with some baby ones. Gordon eradicates the enemies with a shotgun and some grenades and then uses the gravity gun to plug up some open ant lion dens. It ends with Gordon entering a small room filled with explosive drums and mines, after exploding said drums and mines with grenades of course. This timedemo not only does a good job of depicting typical gameplay, but it is also the most stressful on the GPU out of several timedemos I recorded.
All of the in-game graphical settings were set to high. The "Reflections" drop down menu was set to "Reflect All." The "HDR" drop-down menu was set to "Full." Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering were controlled through a batch file which changes the in-game settings. After the batch has finished running, the average frames per second for each test is output to a file. For each test, the timedemo was run three times and the results were averaged. The game was up-to-date as of 8/20/06.
