Conclusion

Overall, I was very impressed with the Ergotron LX Desk Mount LCD Arm. While monitor arms are a little pricy, the LX has a lot to offer and at a very reasonable price. The arm has very good height and reach, and when coupled with the many points of articulation, the monitor can be placed comfortably for almost anybody in any situation. It is also extremely easy to swing the monitor around when working from different locations around the desk or when multiple people are using the same monitor. The arm is well-built and structural failure is the last thing on my mind when using the LX. The built-in cable management works well and keeps everything nicely tucked away. The ability to choose between silver and black is also nice.

Unfortunately, the LX isn't perfect and there are a couple things that need to be taken into consideration when deciding between this arm and more expensive ones. A couple of the pivot points could be tighter; as they are built now, the monitor's weight tends to tilt the arm ever-so-slightly at two of the pivot points, causing a degree or so of screen tilt depending on the monitor's position. This, coupled with the lack of tension adjustment of the landscape/portrait pivot and the inability to lock the screen in place at exactly 0 or 90 degrees leaves room for improvement. However, you get what you pay for, and while the LX is lacking in this specific department, it does have a lot going for it.

If you are looking for a relatively low-priced monitor arm with plenty of articulation and reach, the LX is definitely worth looking into. I personally can overlook the few flaws it has due to its numerous other features, but it really depends on your individual needs. There are other monitor arms out there that don't suffer from the same problems, but they are either lacking in articulation or cost considerably more than the LX.

You have to cut a hole in your desk? I am assuming they give you instructions on diameter of the circle cut needs to be.

There are two methods of mounting, the clamp method, or drilling a hole in the desk. The size of the hole only needs to be large enough for the bolt to fit through. As you can see from the pictures, the bolt isn't that big.
