Conclusion

Overall, the MX Revolution is a good quality, feature packed mouse. Logitech definitely spent a fair amount of time redesigning the external appearance and buttons on the MX Revolution from the MX1000. In this area I think the mouse is a resounding success. Even more revolutionary is the SmartShift Technology that allows for ultra-quick navigation of large documents and webpages.

However, the few minor oversights within the SetPoint software were annoying. Not having a middle mouse function proved to annoy me more than I thought it would, especially when browsing within Mozilla Firefox. But for the most part, the SetPoint software remains an excellent customization tool and nicely compliments the new features of the MX Revolution.

Now, the $100 question. Is the MX Revolution a step up from the MX1000? Personally I feel the sleek design of the MX Revolution is an improvement over the MX1000. The newly added Document Flip feature is nothing new at all as the MX1000 had a similar "application switcher," as it was previously named. But the interface for flipping between documents is ergonomically better and less conspicuous from a design aspect. The MicroGear-driven SmartShift technology is the most obvious evolutionary leap. Once again, Logitech has taken a good idea, the MX1000's CruiseControl rocker switch, and redesigned it to an innovative end. And adding the One-Touch Search button is a convenient extra push over the top. So, to answer my own question, yes the MX Revolution is indeed a forward leap from the already innovative MX1000. Productive mousers rejoice!

Ultra-smooth and fast scrolling
Sleek styling
