Spotlight: Samsung SGH-F300 Double-Sided Cell Phone / MP3 Player

On Monday, Samsung revealed the previously hidden side of their new SGH-F300 cell phone. The F300 looks like an MP3 player on one side, with a 2.1" TFT screen with a resolution of 176x220, and media control buttons. The buttons are touch sensitive and not only respond to clicks, but you can also slide your finger across them to scroll up and down or side to side. The opposite side of the F300 looks more like a traditional cell phone with the number pad and a smaller display. There is a switch on the side of the F300 that allows you to switch between the MP3 player and cell phone functionality. The F300 is GSM/GPRS/EDGE ready, has a built-in 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, 100 MB of onboard memory and a microSD slot for up to an additional 2 GB of storage.

As for music support, the F300 can playback MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+ and WMA files and supports WMDRM and MTP as well as MPEG4 and H.263 video. As with most high-end cell phones, the F300 supports Bluetooth v2.0 and USB 2.0. The phone is very small and thin and measures out to 103.5 x 55 x 9.4mm.

I was able to play around with this phone at Samsung's booth and I was fairly impressed. The phone, as I said, is very thin, and it feels very well built and responsive. The media buttons on the MP3 side, as well as the touch-sensitive scrolling works well and the user interface was purdy. You can expect to see the SGH-F300 sometime this quarter.
