Performance Summary
Half-Life 2 Episode 1
In HL2 Episode 1 we see virtually no difference in performance between the 7950 GT OC and its direct competition, ATI's X1900 XT. You can expect about a 5fps extra on the 7950 GT OC compared to the standard 7950 GT.
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher's Bay
In stark contrast to our HL2 results, the 7950 GT OC wipes its... mops the floor with the X1900 XT, getting 81 fps versus 46fps at 1600x1200 with 2xAA/4xAF. The 7950 GT OC gets about 10fps more on average than the standard version of the card.
F.E.A.R.
We've got another tie here. The 7950 GT OC and X1900 XT are equally equipped for playing F.E.A.R. For the best compromise in looks/performance you might want to stick to 1024x768 and turn the AA/AF up to 4x/8x. By 1600x1200 it gets iffy, and don't even think about using AA or AF. The overclocked 7950 GT only performance 3-4fps better on average than the standard card here.
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Again, the difference between the 7950 GT OC and X1900 XT is insignificant and by no means noticeable in NFSMW. There is a difference that is not performance related though. I've always found the image quality in this game to be nicer on NVIDIA's cards. For some reason, ATI cards overdo the blooming effects at times, and I've noticed some unusual texture popping (particularly on one area where a distant mountain changes a few times and actually looks like a glitch). I'd blame EA, but it's something I noticed so it's worth mentioning. The performance differential between the OC'ed and standard 7950 GT isn't really noticeble except at 1600x1200 where those few extra fps make a difference in smoothness.
X3 Reunion Demo
Well this is annoying... Yet again the performance is too close to call in our X3 Reunion demo. I mean, c'mon team Red, team Green, one of you is supposed to slaughter the other in every single game. It's more fun that way, because then I can make fun of one of you. Oh, and the OC'ed card only gets about 3fps more on average than the standard version.
3DMark 06
Um... 3DMark '06 is... pretty? As I mentioned earlier, I don't take 3DMark scores seriously, so I won't comment on performance there.
