Zune Active-Sport

First Looks

If the name didn't give it away, the styling certainly does. The Active-Sport is designed purely for users who are active!or umm, sporty. The neoprene and rubberized case is highlighted with reflective material, an extra safety measure for those of you that like to run in the dark on heavily traveled highways.

A lengthy armband helps cinch the Active-Sport case around the arm of music-loving athletes. The lightly padded mesh backing makes for a comfortable fit around the arm and, like the Executive, incorporates a clear protective screen and a small pocket large enough to money or credit cards and. Cut outs for the D-pad, play and menu buttons are found on the front of the case while a hole for the connection port is down below.

Testing

I'd hardly call myself an athlete, but I did manage to attempt some sort of Active-Sport-like activity while wearing the case. The soft case fit nicely around my arm and held the player snugly in place while I biked around my neighborhood. Actually, snugly is an under-statement. The Zune is actually rather difficult to slide in and out of the case. An elastic material helps hold the player tightly behind the clear plastic screen protector. But I suppose real athletes, unlike me, could actually generate enough motion to knock the Zune loose so some tight elastic is warranted. The snug fit should keep your Zune in place during most active sports.

The button cut out is larger than on the leather case and makes for easier navigation and button manipulation. The menu and play buttons are just slightly covered by the edge of the material, but aren't as annoying to operate as with the Executive. The long arm band and Velcro closure should be large enough to fit nearly every user. I mean if it fits around my massive biceps!

It may take some getting used to if you're the type of user who is looking to remove the Zune after every exercise session. Sliding the Zune player in and out of the case only takes an extra 10-15 seconds but requires a fair amount of finagling. The Active-Sport is definitely built to see some action so don't be shy about putting it through its paces.
