Performance Summary

The 8800GTX is still the reigning champ; nothing about this has fundamentally changed. It's also probably the best option for big displays. There's something very cool about using all 2,304,000 pixels of a 24" monitor while dipping them all into some oh-so-tasty eye candy.

Furthermore, it's probably the only choice for 1920x1200 and higher resolutions, if the gamer in question is at all aware of chugging frame rates. In all these tests, performance was smooth like butter.

Overclocking

Without trying hard, the card succeeded with a good overclock, from its stock speed of 575MHz core/ 1800MHz memory to 620MHz core/ 2000MHz memory: close to 8800 Ultra territory, without all that extra money-spending.

Conclusion

What was true for this card in November is still true today: for about a 25% price premium over an 8800GTS, and now also an HD 2900 XT, you will see at least a 25% gain in performance, and in many cases, something like 40% and then some.

Being true for all 8800GTXs, does this card stand out? I'd say not. It's a little more expensive than other 8800GTXs, and is essentially stock in all respects. There are other cards with HDCP and PCB that's just as black and pretty, available for less. Considering these cards often have factory overclocks, it's hard to make an argument in favor of Asus' 8800GTX outside of its bundle.

And seeing how the money saved buying a different card can buy a CD wallet and a copy of G.R.A.W., maybe with some money left over, the only reason left is brand loyalty. If you have to buy an Asus 8800GTX, well, this is the card to beat.

Pros

It's an 8800GTX
Asus branding and support

Cons

There's nothing special about it, it's 100% stock
Slight price premium

I did the rolley thing. They're AAAs, I don't have spare AAAs. . .

Anyway, I can fix the forum, it's up to the powers to change the title of the article. Thanks for pointing that out, it was a really dumb mistake.
