Conclusion

I loved the Clix Rhapsody. Why beat around the bush? I tried to find fault with it and what I came up with was minimal. The side buttons are somewhat difficult to get at, but not enough to overshadow the crisp, bright screen and the out-of-this-world menu interface.

And, without spoiling my upcoming Rhapsody service review, I also have to say I'm equally impressed with the music subscription company. I was a bit apprehensive that the music catalog would be a bit slim compared to iTunes, but I found plenty of music to keep me happy. The seamless integration with the Clix PMP was icing on the cake. Search, click, drag, rock...that's how it's done. But, then again, that is what I like about iriver: simplicity of design and implementation.

I've decided that I prefer using the Clix player in portrait mode rather than landscape. Videos display in landscape mode regardless, so really it's a matter of personal preference for music playback. The more I listen to the sleek player, the more I'm impressed with the quality of music it pumps out. I definitely like it better than my Sansa e260. Sadly, the biggest drawback to the Clix Rhapsody is it only comes in the 4 gigabyte flavor, an 8 gigger sure would be nice...hint, hint. If you are a fan of the first Clix, you'll love the second iteration. Or, if, like me, you've been waiting for the thinner 2nd generation to hit the market, your wait has not been in vain. Go get one now! And for the grand sum of exactly $0 extra you can make mine a Clix Rhapsody.

Pros

Excellent screen and menu interface.
Great sound quality.
Compatible with the outstanding Rhapsody service.
Features, features, features.
Good battery life.

Cons

Tiny buttons along the edge.
Limited to 4GB, at this time.
Windows XP/Vista only; sorry Mac folks.

Nice review, very thorough and non-biased. I would, however, like to point out something that wasn't mentioned. Since the Clix Gen2 plays .ogg music files and shows up as a separate "hard drive", this player is the ideal solution for us *nix users out there looking for a flash media player. I am partial to Ubuntu Linux and have had no issues with music as of yet. I have not attempted to put any videos on my Clix using Linux (I use a dual boot with XP Pro and Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn") I will report back on my endeavors when the time comes.

Thanks again for the wonderfully informational review of one of the best flash PMP's on the market.
