iPod touch
Finally, the iPod touch. The iPhone minus the phone. People have been asking for one ever since they laid eyes on the iPhone (Ed - I wanted one ever since I first heard rumors of one, long before the iPhone). And Steve really delivered this time. The iPod touch's screen and device dimensions are nearly identical to the phone, except that it's only 8mm thick (or thin). The iPhone is 11mm thick.
Apple was smart enough to leave WiFi built in so that users can continue to browse the web from the device. They even left in YouTube integration, so you can watch videos on the iPod touch.
The iPod touch also shares other smaller applets with the iPhone, such as contact lists, calendar, and calculator. I was surprised at the lack of a notes applet, though.
Apple is touting 22 hours of audio and 5 hours of video, which I think is a bit disappointing. Like I mentioned above, 5 hours is good enough for a cross country flight, but I guess I was expecting more considering the radio for the phone was no longer installed.
The price is what might bother you... 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $399.
Yes, Apple went with flash memory for the iPod touch. That being said, after using my 8GB iPhone for two months, I've discovered that I can really compress my movies down to a low bitrate (500kbit/s) and still get good quality video. I ripped the first two seasons of Entourage (22 episodes in total) and put them on my phone and it only took up about 3GB of space, leaving me with a little more than 4GB of space left for music and other movies.
