Apple iTunes Music Store WiFi

Now that all the hardware is out of the way, let's move on to the new feature: Apple iTunes Music Store WiFi. You'll be able to purchase music (and not movies or anything else) over WiFi and download it directly to your iPod touch. Once you sync it with your computer, the song will be loaded onto the computer from the iPod touch. This feature will be ported to the iPhone by the end of the month.

Apple / Starbucks Partnership

Apple is partnering with Starbucks to allow iPod touch and iPhone users to connect to their WiFi network in their stores for free, automatically. Cool, but not earth-shattering.

The last "feature" is more of a joke than anything else. Apple's partnership with Starbucks will also allow you to determine what song is playing and/or buy it while you're in the Starbucks store. I sure hope Starbucks paid Apple a good amount of money to do this. If they would have done this feature with radio it would have been sweet. But considering I haven't walked into a Starbucks in years, I'm not too keen on this. In fact, I don't think I've ever been in public and wondered what song was playing in the background.

And One More Thing...

Finally, as Steve was wrapping things up, he dropped a huge bombshell.

The 8GB iPhone is now only $399 - a $200 price drop. 4GB iPhones will now be $300. As an iPhone owner, I can say that this pisses me off something fierce. But it's great for Apple as they'll now sell a ton of phones this holiday season. The only upside I see to this announcement is that maybe 16GB iPhones at $499 aren't too far off. I can get rid of my 8GB iPhone and drop in a few hundred more to get the 16GB version.
