Conclusion

The Future Sonics Atrio series canalphones have received a lot of praise from various sources, and they quote several big-name musicians and producers all professing their love for these headphones but I just don't get it. Yes, the bass is superb, but it can be overwhelming and boomy at times. It seems to drown out the mids and highs, that while clearly there, seem understated. These canalphones just don't produce the full range of sound accurately enough, and for $200 I expected quite a bit more.

The only way I can recommend these canalphones is if you must have that pounding bass and find that most other headphones place too much importance on a loud and clear high-end. However, if you want all-around accurate sound reproduction, I would definitely recommend you take a look at competing canalphones from Shure and Sennheiser.

Pros

Bass is loud and proud
Sound still "accurate" at lower volumes

Cons

Sound reproduction doesn't focus enough on mids and highs
Bass can sometimes be overwhelming
Look cheap

you do realize that you have to burn these in for a while before they reveal their true tonality, right? play them at a loud volue (while not wearing them) for 50 hours or so and then judge them.

And you do realize that he used them for an entire month, right?

Do you realize that the best performance is when using foam ends not the rubber ones...
He seems to have used them with other brand rubbers... not sure it's the right way to test a product...
The bass is not boomy, it is very clearand powerfull, and the mids and high are also very clear...

Decent review, but a lot of the abnormalities you note of clear up substantially with burn-in.

I really want to try some Shure Olives (black foam sleaves).

How long of a burn-in are you talking about Syrius? More than a month of regular usage?

100 hours of uncompressed pink noise at moderate volume seems to burn these babies in nicely
