OCZ Platinum r2 DDR2-800 2GB Memory Kit
Conclusion
I'm willing to concede, given the apparently faulty heatspreader and general inability to overclock, that this RAM is broken. The other possibility is that OCZs Platinum series isn't as vaulted as it used to be, and they're reserving their best-binned modules for their vastly more eXtreme Reaper HPC and FlexXLC memory. I suspect the latter is more likely, and Platinum RAM is just shiny budget memory. The emphasis on budget is a little lost, though, since Crucial's budget memory outperformed this OCZ RAM in every overclocking test, and I suspect would do just as well in other tests if set with the OCZ timings. The real kick in the pants is that Crucial's budget RAM costs almost $50 less. That's a lot of cash for some cheese graters. With the other options available, including other OCZ products, I couldn't imagine recommending this particular kit to anyone.
