Testing Methodology

We bench using Windows XP Service Pack 2, and the latest video card drivers. The driver settings were left at default, and transparency-sampling anti-aliasing was left off. We try to use our own timedemos whenever possible, but will use the in-game timedemo or record a few minutes of gameplay using FRAPS if that's not an option. All benchmarking results are the average of at least three runs per setting. In some instances, if we've deemed a game unplayable with a card at a certain setting, we've recorded the score as a 0.

HQV

To rate the video as objectively as possible, I'll be using the HQV benchmark DVD, a collection of clips that highlight the many processes involved in video playback, and then rating them based on my findings, using Cyberlink's PowerDVD codec. HQV uses a collection of clips that are visually assessed. Most of the tests are scored as pass or fail, and the number of points each clip is worth varies depending on the importance. For example, jaggies can be severe and are easily noticeable, so getting a pass there is worth more than getting a pass on noise reduction.

Noise

"Seeing as how the video card doesn't have a fan, it shouldn't make any noise, but sometimes hardware makes electronic whines."

It actually makes noise! Don`t know if its only the one I got, but it definitely makes a high pitch sound whenever scrolling windows or playing games.

Have you tried unplugging your speakers? Sometimes they pick up weird crosstalk or whatever electronics dudes call it.

Also: that sucks, man, hate to hear that. It's probably covered by the warranty if it's driving you nuts.
