Taking a Closer Look
Each square bowling ball contains two drivers, a 20mm silk dome tweeter and a 5" Kevlar woofer, all housed behind 25mm thick MDF. The pair weighs almost 30 lbs. The right speaker hosts the amp, the spare, an ungrounded power outlet, two 3.5mm input jacks, the power-only USB plug, the power light, the power switch, and the volume-control knob. The left speaker is all speaker, and weighs less. They connect to each other by good ol' speaker wire (16AWG, or about 18 gauge) and gold-plated binding posts. The setup guide, by the way, oddly includes a short preface that covers assaying the speakers. This is the regular manual, I didn't get a special one. Another funny thing is that, even though the cable for USB devices is a meter long, the secondary audio cable is only eight inches.
Setup
Like those old Mac ads, you pretty much just plug in one wire. I mean, you'll eventually plug in two, but to get the (pleasantly dim) power LED glowing you just plug it into the wall. After that, you plug them into your device's audio-out jack, and you'll probably want to connect the left channel. So three steps, really. It'll take more effort to carry the box into the house.
