Video playback is where the 9800 GTX takes the lead. While it's technically lower than ATI's hardware, the moire issues they have aren't present; it's only weakness is poor SD noise reduction, which may be corrected within the driver settings.

The new card does consume less power than its predecessor, but not by much. The weird thing is that it's much louder than the 8800 GTX--a card even silent PC enthusiasts endorse. The 9800 GTX is constant and growly at idle, and picks up speed quick as soon as the temperature rises. It never becomes really annoying, it's not high-pitched at all, but it does get loud, and no amount of case dampening is going to help. If you're after peaceful hell-raising, you'll want to look into after-market cooling in a hurry.

But the power numbers look really sad against ATI's mid-range card, with the 9800 GTX using about twice the power at load and idle.

Overclocking this card is rewarding, and it seems that anyone can practically guarantee a clean 5% over stock, with 15% being the collective ceiling. NVIDIA's overclocking tools have come along nicely and I can't imagine not using them, no matter what kind of gamer I was. Overclocked, this card finally can outperform an 8800 GTX, which, I guess is cool.

What is a cross-over or equal to an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS Graphics Card?
Sincerely,
