Conclusion
The Turtle Beach X4s aren't perfect. The audio is soft and noisy, battery life is mediocre, they still need tethering to the controller (if you're using the mic) and the build quality can be summed up with the word plastic. But they really deliver on surround sound, the bass is tangible and fun, and they never lose their signal.
They're super-comfy, too. I had no problems wearing these, even for all-night gaming sessions. It's a value proposition: taking the very good 5.1 replication, comfort, and privacy into consideration, are they worth $200? If you're an all-night gamer, then the value is definitely there for you. Personally, I'd put them on my wish list this December; for that price, I'll only buy these if I find a winning scratch ticket in the parking lot. Maybe if they didn't take AAAs; if they had a Li-ion battery pack and charged on the receiver, they'd warrant the cost. And this is nit-picky, but I don't have a lot of outlet real estate next to the TV and a wall wart is annoying.
I suspect the high price is to draw attention and make people go, "Ooh, a ridiculously expensive headset. And it's Turtle Beach! It has to be awesome!" Give it a few months and they'll come down to a more palatable price [I hope] - you know, just in time for the holidays.
The Good

Great bass
Believable 5.1
Good connectivity options
The Bad

$200? Really?
