Sound Quality

The Zeppelin is pretty. We've established that. But how does it sound? I put it through the paces with a bunch of my favorite music and I found the answer to that question.

The oblong shape, from which the Zeppelin gets its name, is as functional as it is attractive. Apparently the separation of the smaller outer speakers gives you a wider listening area than something that is a bit more compact. Compared to an earlier model of the Bose SoundDock I checked out, I'd agree that it fills a room better. In my smaller office, it produced more than enough volume for any listening situation. In my living room, which is quite a bit bigger, it never hit a limit performance-wise.

I jammed out to a little bit of everything during my time with the Zeppelin. I kicked off the party with, well, a party. I had some friends over and we jammed out to David Bowie, Lil Wayne, and Nickel Creek, among others. Bowie sounded excellent, from the orchestration in "Life on Mars" to the chunky power chords on "Queen Bitch." So the Zeppelin can pull off rock with fashion and grace, just like Mr. Stardust himself.

Lil Weezy wasn't quite as successful. On "A Milli," the bass line sounded great at a low to normal volume but didn't hold up as well at higher levels. The fuzziness is probably more of a case of excessive bass throttling the Zeppelin's refined acoustic design than a lack of performance. But it's worth noting for those of you who dig the thump of a Roland TR-808.

Nickel Creek gave me a chance to check out the Zeppelin's performance on a few more detailed pieces. On "This Side," All the mandolin runs, fiddle solos, and guitar picking came through crisp and clear. The stand-up bass carried the rhythm along with aplomb. I was really impressed at this point; I had seen Nickel Creek live within the last year and this was how I wanted to hear their records ever since.

I typically consume my music digitally these days. I do get back to my CD collection frequently enough, however, to notice the lack of a built-in disc player on the Zeppelin. It's not a deal killer - you can hook any source you want to the AUX port - but it wouldn't hurt to have another integrated source on a speaker system at this price point.

After many hours of listening, I figured that this speaker needed to get back to its home. So I listened to Led Zeppelin on the Zeppelin. And it was everything I wanted it to be. When I was trying to keep the volume down out of respect for the others in the house, all of the nuances across the frequency range stayed intact. During the day, I cranked the volume and the Zeppelin matched every step. I really dig the way this speaker system sounds.

akustika: I would mind a lot less if you would actually link to us prominently and state that it is a translation of an article from TheTechLounge. As it stands, you're just stealing our content and putting it in a different language, without permission. I appreciate that you're asking in this case, but I noticed that you translated at least parts of our LaserVue article as well.

At the and of article I put direct link to this article and write that source is TheTechLounge.

Concerning LaserVue(http://akustika-life.blogspot.com/2008/10/laser-tv...) I take only conclusion from comparing it with Pioneer PRO-151FD Kuro 60 and add link immediately.

If you have objections I'll don't use TheTechLounge as source.

Thank you
