Conclusion

If you like the finer things in life, you've got to be a discerning consumer. That Herman Miller Aeron chair you're considering for the office? Do you want the basic model, or will you opt for PostureFit? Will you select a neutral gray or True Black? Have you consulted your interior design team? There are so many choices to make.

If you're looking for a set of headphones that will be a sure-fire bet for most every listening need you'll have whilst ensconced in your fine Corinthian leather easy chair at home, the Sennheisers should be on the short list. Selling at around $180-190 online, they're a great value for a set of cans that reproduce sound faithfully and enjoyably. More than anything, they are physically and aurally comfortable. They'll help you settle into a calm evening and relax.

The open design has its issues when it comes to incoming and outgoing sound leakage but, given the right listening situation, the staging really adds something to the whole experience. Just don't plan on listening to those 96kbps mp3s you downloaded off of Napster back in 1999 - you'll hear every bit of quality missing from those kinds of recordings.

To conclude, the Sennheiser HD 595s are a great choice if you like listening to music alone at home. They won't fly on a commute or in any public situation due to invading outside noise, and you might get in trouble for inadvertently broadcasting your music selections to those around you. Listen with proper isolation, though, and you'll be very pleased. The sound presentation might not have you on the edge of your seat but you'll find yourself reclining comfortably in that favorite chair.

The Good

Easy to drive on most any source
Very comfortable (and purdy)
Great sound for pretty much anything you want to listen to
User-replaceable parts rock

The Bad

Open design leaks sound - in and out
Might cook your ears 'cause the earpieces are kinda stuffy
They feel pretty light, in case you think nice things should be heavy

The reason they may seem neutral or flat to you is because when you get audiophile phones such as sennheisers the optimum enviroment to listen to them is with proper amplifiers hence the 1/4 stereo jack, it makes all the difference.
