Sample Photos Pg. 3
( Click thumbnails for larger image )

Left: This shot was taken in macro mode. Note the details on the pink flowers. Colors are vibrant. The bee isn't as crisp as I would like, but overall great image quality.
Middle: Colors look great, and there is little noise, but the image could be crisper. Overall good image quality.
Right: No apparent noise. Vibrant colors. Note the detail on house in background and fence to right. Overall very good image quality.

Left: Entire image has noticeable noise. Good detail and near true to life colors. Overall okay image quality.
Middle: Indoor shot. Used +1.0EV setting with no flash. Good detail on vase. Note the noise in shadows cast by vase & flowers. True to life colors. Overall very good image quality.
Right: Night shot in neighborhood with no flash and +1.0EV setting. Used tripod for steady shot. Note slightly visible houses (they were actually barely lit). Overall good image quality.

Left: Local strip mall at night. Used no flash, a positive EV setting, and tripod for steady shot. In real life it was actually very dark in the parking lot and buildings and trees were just slightly lit. Note that with most digital cameras you will get a lot of noise in night shots. Overall great image quality.
Middle: Local strip mall at night. Once again, used no flash, a positive EV setting, and tripod for steady shot. As in previous, it was very dark in the parking lot and buildings and trees were not really as bright as the camera made them (thanks to positive EV setting). Again there is noise, but the great amount of detail in the image make up for it, as do the nice colors. Note that the strange noisy blur top & center is from a light that is just out of the picture. Overall great image quality.
Right: This is the same situation as previous two. By far, this is my favorite night shot that I have taken with this camera. Note the vibrant green grass (it was extremely dark!). There is a lot of detail in this image and surprisingly there is not a lot of noise. There are a couple of jaggies in some of the power lines, but nothing major. As a general rule of thumb, red streaks are cool. Overall excellent image quality.

Left: Same situation as last several images. Again, note the vibrant colors in grass and in background as well as foreground. The streaks of light look particularly nice in this image. Overall very good image quality.
Right: Same as previous, just seconds later. I believe I used a lower EV setting in this shot than in previous, thus the darker grass and stoplight. Overall good image quality.

I was just researching this camera... Anyway, thanks for the great review. I just have one question: How long is the shutter lag (time from pressing the button to taking the picture)? I really hate having to wait a second or two to take a picture, and I need to know this before I buy the camera. Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

when you use flash, there isnt really shutter lag, but you ahve to wait for the flash to recharge, which takes 2-3 seconds.
When you use no flash, it will take about half a second to take the shot, and then you can immediately take another picture, but you will want to focus again first which takes about another second.
We use this camera for all our reviews, and i used it on vacation etc... and the short wait wasn't a problem for me
hope this helps, and thanks for your kind words. let me know if you have any more questions

I still love my Nikon Coolpix 950, even though it's considered obsolete and in the aging process.
The Nikon Coolpix 950 is only a 2MP digital camera, but I'm still amazed at the quality of the photos it takes that rivals the quality of some of these new 3-4MP cameras. Given the resolution/pixel count is not as high, the balance between the colors and capture of the depth aspect and shadows is amazing.
Since my Coolpix was bought as remanufactured and it's already considered old going on 2-3yrs, it's already showing its signs of wear and tear with the switch that's going out on me, but it still takes awesome pictures :) Nikon is a bit more pricey than other digital cameras, but the quality shows for it.
A review I found on the CoolPix 950:
