First Impressions
The first thing I thought when I opened the box was that the 730i looked quite cool. The silver body and chrome buttons are very stylish, and the LCD display is quite large. Also inside the box you will find a user's manual, leather case, USB cable, headphones, and a CD with software. Nothing unusual here, let's move on!

Closer Look
The layout of the 730i is pretty straight forward. On the face there is a Stop button, Play/Pause button, Up/Down buttons, a small microphone activity LED, and a large LCD display. On the left side of the player, you will see buttons for A->B and Record, a USB connection, and a Smart Memory Card slot (for up to a 128MB card). On the top of the player you will find connections for headphones and a microphone, as well as a Mode (only used while playing MP3i files) and an "Interactive' button (lets you switch between different interactive modes when playing MP3is). On the right side of the player you will find Volume controls (+ and -), and a Hold switch. Lastly, on the back of the player is where you will find the Battery Compartment, a nifty removable belt clip, and a button to eject the Smart Media Card if you have one.

LCD Display
The LCD displays several things including battery life, volume level, mode (memo or song), repeat type, song time (##:##:##), hold (if on), and khz and kbps. The readout is nice and crisp, and the blue backlight makes it possible to read the screen in total darkness. It may be difficult to read the screen from some angles, however, due to the fact that the LCD is actually inset.
