ApeXtreme Gaming Console

At first glance the ApeXtreme may appear to be a normal console, but don't be fooled. It is much more than an ordinary console. The ApeXtreme uses "drop and play' technology to let you play PC games on your TV. Basically you install PC games on it, and then you can play them just as you would any other console game. The ApeXtreme has a built-in Ethernet and phone connection so that it can download system updates as well as game patches. Apparently there will be two versions of the console available. One will cost $399 and will come with a VIA Graphics card. The other will cost $299 and will have onboard video (powered by VIA CN400 chipset).

The specs of the ApeXtreme that was being shown off at the show are as follows:
  • VIA C3 1.4GHz processor
  • 300MHz S3 DeltaChrome graphics chip with 64MB RAM
  • DVD-ROM
  • 1 component, 1 composite, and 1 S-video TV connection
  • DVI connector
  • 256MB system RAM
  • 20GB HDD
  • 6 USB inputs
  • 6-channel surround sound
  • Modem port
  • 10/100 Ethernet connector

The ApeXtreme will come with an embedded version of Windows XP, which allows you to play over 2,000 PC games already. With the ApeXtreme you can also playback MP3s, internet radio, and of course, DVDs!
