Introduction

Not even a year ago we wrote a glowing review of the DFI LanParty NFII Ultra. Great performance, exceptional overclocking, plenty of extras and great looks made this board a favorite. So why would DFI update such a great board? More features of course!! LanParty boards are filled to the brim but DFI saw some things that they could add to an already impressive package. They replaced the HighPoint ATA RAID controller with a Silicon Image 4-port SATA RAID controller. They removed a serial port to add SPDIF output. They even added heatsink mounting holes.

So in the move to accommodate these features, and with the extensive component relocation, will we speak as highly about this new revision? It doesn't take a mind reader to know that I'm about to say!you will just have to read on to find out.

UPDATE: July 31, 2004

There is an update regarding DFI's tech support and the Onboard LAN problem on page three of this review.

Interesting to read your comments about the SiL RAID controller as most users reckon the 3114 is noticeably slower than the 3112 & certainly not upto the Intel ICH5 (particularly as it passes data via the PCI Bus so it is possible to get bus saturation).

The DFI nForec2 boards have a lot of potential but they also have a no. of "issues"

Nick, I have heard a lot about this board, and I had (2) of the Ultra Infinity boards, which are supposedly identical sans the bundle and flashy colors. I found both boards to be flaky, and poor overclockers, not to mention boot problems aplenty. There are a lot of disgruntled people out there who have had similar problems and there is a general feeling that DFI has some pretty poor quality control. I consider their boards to be in the high risk category when it comes to quality and dependability. The amdforums have abundant echos of such sentiments. Have you heard anything similar to what I have experienced? Do you feel confident in reccomending such chancy hardware to people?

I reviewed the Revision A board not too long ago and loved it. Actually, the computer I am on right now has a LanParty NF2U in it. I have had no problems with this board, especially not the ones you mention. Nick seemed to have a little booting problem but found the board to be a great overclocker.

Flip-mode: We have reviewed quite a few DFI boards as you can see from our motherboard review section. This board is the first that we have had a problem with. If this had been the only DFI board I had seen, I could not have recommended it. But given that our other boards worked great, I am using the PRO875B as my main system and have no problems, I am confident that most will not have any problems. As far as overclocking, the KT400A didnt perform so well, but the others were great.
