Introduction

Choosing the right components for a custom-built computer can prove to be an arduous and time-consuming task, and it's not made any easier by the large number of choices to consider. There is no perfect, all-around solution that works for everyone. It all depends on two things: what your needs are and how much money you are willing to spend.

The goal of this guide is to outline an entire high-end computer system for around $3,000. This includes the internal hardware, input devices, monitor and speakers (everything but an OS). The components we have chosen for this system are what we consider to be great products with the best bang for the buck. Depending on your individual needs, you may prefer to swap out different components in order to focus more on gaming, multimedia or multitasking. While we will recommend specific components throughout the article, we will also point out some options that you may want to consider as well.

We're doing our buyer's guides a little differently this time around. We've teamed up with Newegg to offer some discounts on most of the products we are recommending. As such, when we refer to the price of a product we will usually state the Newegg price (before the promotional discount) and then the corresponding promo code and value if applicable. That said, we do not want to force you to purchase the products we recommend from any one store, so we are also showing a few other stores for each product. We are regular customers at Newegg and we highly recommend them, but the choice is yours.

Note: TheTechLounge cannot be held responsible for price changes and product availability. All pricing is correct as of this article's posting date.

We will be updating the expiration dates for the coupon codes as soon as we get confirmation from Newegg. My estimate right now would be that there are around two weeks left to use the coupon codes, but we will see.
