Keep in mind we are pretty new, so we probably won't be able to get a 50" plasma screen tv or anything like that. But I could be wrong :P

I think soon we will be doing that. I contacted a company recently about reviewing some of their monitors and I think they will be sponsoring us soon. I will keep you updated

we will be getting some wc kits soon hopefully. we have to grow just a LITTLE bit more before that, but it should only be a week or two tops before we are big enough to merit a sponsorship of that size. we will keep you updated if we find out we will receive a wc kit

nice review on that enermax case. i cant decide whether to get that or a pc-7

Kurtis
04-26-2003, 12:56 AM
well it depends how much you want to spend... i can tell you i am in love with this enermax case... the only thing i really dont like about it is the door bring backed with plastic. The mobo tray isn't a huge deal but it would be nice to have one. If you have the money I would probably go with a pc-70, but if you want a lot of sweet features and dont care about the door being a little weak, get the enermax for sure. they sell it over at xoxide.com and directron.com

I'd like to see ye do a review on something really usefull but doesn't cost a helluva lot. Ye know like a fan or a air coolant for thsoe pesky chips and motherboards that like to get to hot. ;D

Kurtis
04-26-2003, 01:00 AM
lol. try this. stick your computer in the freezer. it may short out after condensation sets in but it will run cool before it fries

DnD

HAH! You make me laugh like a silly man! HAH. anyway....yeah not only would it do that but pretty much ruin the whole thing so thats a no no :P

Kurtis
04-26-2003, 01:06 AM
heh. you could ziploc your whole computer and stick it in there, and seal cables arounc ziploc etc... this way it gets cold but no condensation :-p

DnD
04-26-2003, 01:08 AM
But then the ziploc would freeze and I couldn't press the power button on my computer which means no internet :( besides i'm not having problems its just for peepz that do oh oh Maybe you guys could review a CPU?? Or oh oh A motherboard? would be pretty sweet :D

Kurtis
04-26-2003, 01:11 AM
we will be reviewing a brand new LANPARTY motherboard with nForce2 chipset soon, we are waiting for it to go into production etc so that they can send it to us. As for CPUs, we would VERY much like to review a barton etc... but we are a month old, so we are doing what we can for now.

We will be receiving a lot of stuff to review over the next week, in fact i have 5 things sitting on my desk right now just waiting for me to review them...

Now I have a question when you're done reviewing these items do you send them back or keep them?

Kurtis
04-26-2003, 02:08 PM
we keep them unless they tell us to send it back. most of the times they will let you keep stuff unless its like an expensive monitor or something. and then sometimes we will decide to give away the ones we keep etc in contests or something else.

DnD
04-26-2003, 10:17 PM
nice, I also have another question when you started out all new and stuff how did u get you're first few reviews done?? Dide you order stuff or did you use items you already had?

lol me too. but seeing as xoxide has only sponsors us once so far, I doubt they will want to send a $400 case  Plus its not really new now, so I dont know if they would even want it reviewed. Ill give it a shot sometime soon :D

red999
05-03-2003, 09:06 AM
I know it might be a little more difficult to review mainly cuz of the price, but if you could get your hands on LCD monitors. Possibly find the best one for gaming and review to see how good it really is.

Kurtis
05-03-2003, 10:25 AM
yea i am working out something with a company, or trying to... they make you send them back after you review them, but that doesn't matter to me, as long as i get to review the stuff. Hopefully soon they will start sending stuff.

u should try and get all mousepads for a all around what is the best in techlounge's as in fUnc, Steelpad, supermat, dkt pad, and u already have the icemat n ratpadz. others would be like best corded mouses for us pro gamers. i cant stand wireless so i either use Dual optical logitech or mx500. Kurtis

in my opinion CD drives are not worth reviewing. The problem with CD Drives is that the performance between different ones isn't extreme and any will do the job (realisticially speaking). People buy whatever is on sale locally (at least I know I do) because there are more important things to spend big bucks on than CD Drives. I myself have a 52x CD-RW Cendyne drive (Cendyne isn't very popular) but it works flawlessly and writes extremely fast.

i spent the extra $$ for a plextor and haven't been let down. i have used sony drives that can't burn 1 music disc without buffer under run errors. my wife burns music cd's for all her friends, we are on our second spindle of 100 discs in less than a year and we have yet to burn one coaster, no sh**.

for a read only CD drive, i buy the cheap-o ones. my gaming machine has no burn capabilities, didn't need em. so i just bought the $20 drive from the local comp. store.

plextor makes some great stuff. i am sold on their drives.

07-14-2003, 02:23 PM
I've used a Yamaha SCSI burner and that I had no problems with and also a Samsung DVD/CD-RW combo at work with no problems. At home I use an older TDK burner that for the most part works okay. Burning things I have no problem, but sometimes when I rip music from CDs the drive hangs up and locks windows. It seems to only happen with so-so cds that are on their way out.

Brian
07-14-2003, 02:24 PM
Yeah, I have a Plextor in a diff comp. That is one solid drive and has being working flawlessly for about a year now.

Routers. DSL/CABLE/WIRELESS It may not be in the same area of hardware you are looking at reviewing. I would look for ease of setup, stuff like that. features/prices.

Kurtis
07-28-2003, 10:38 AM
we can't review dsl/cable.... that changes depending on where you are... we could do networking though. we have already done some networking, the neverwire 14 from phonex

Rich
07-28-2003, 12:00 PM
Any type of networking components would be good to review. I think giving a look at the lesser known networking technologies could be a benefit, especially as more homes have more computers. Wireless, might be a good one too, signal strength, setup, mounting options, etc. The router issue would be more of general ease of use and setup, along with possible upgradability, and pass-throughs. I have used several different types of routers, some good, some bad. Is the phonex review on the site? I must have missed it.

Kurtis
07-28-2003, 12:11 PM
yeah its on there, look here:

I've been meaning to buy one but i don't quite know which one... there are soo many nice 4 mega pixels out there... but i don't quite know what all the features are for... can you guys do some kind of a review for digital camera's... more like what all the features does....

=)

Rich
08-07-2003, 06:56 AM
Digital cameras are a good idea. I think many of them have great picture taking etc. What I think really separates them is their ability to easily connect and download to a computer. That is where I think a lot of cameras fail. Some of them have REALLy crappy software.

Kurtis
08-07-2003, 11:39 AM
Actually I am reviewing a DSC-P72 Sony 3.2 MP digital camera. It is a cybershot series. Nice camera, lots of features.

About picture transferring, if you use windows XP, the best picture transfer is the automatic one, I don't like any software transfer programs from any cameras, too slow. XP is faster :P

i would like you to look through all the surround sound speakers (for PCs of course) find the very best 3 or 1 or 2 and review them. Giving the way you guys grade them fairly it will be a tough thing to do for you two...evil aren't i?

BP487
08-09-2003, 08:23 AM
I would like to see you guys review some lower costing high end vid. cards, such as Tyan's (Tyan 9800 Pro (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=Tyan+9 800+Pro)). Some of the other lower costing manufacturers would be nice too, such as Gigabyte, FIC (sometimes low cost), etc. You barely ever hear about these cards in reviews. It would be nice to see if they compare to ATI's and Saphire's cards 8).

Kurtis
08-09-2003, 12:24 PM
About the speakers... Speakers are very expensive. We are working on getting some things like that, I'm trying to get my hands on some Logitech Z680s, as well as some Klipsch 5.1s. In time we will, hopefully soon :)

Now about the video cards... Chaintech has sent us a 5600 Ultra, which is low cost. However we havent gotten a chance to review any HIGH-end video cards. With that said, I think I may be able to get Visiontek to send us a 9800 pro soon. We are constantly asking for sponsorships, so believe me when I say things will only get better here :)

i haven't gotten hold of Dell yet, it usually takes about a week to get someone on the phone.

As for cameras, I will have a review up of the Sony DSC-P72 soon. As for comparison, not sure about that, noone wants to send lots of expensive cameras, and they take a lot of time to test. You will see how I tested this camera when the review is up.

I noticed it as well (also noticing the request for the Dell PDA now. I should read things more thoroughly ). However, I currently own a HP Photosmart 318 which I think serves what I want it to do just fine (never been much of a photographer). While I can't say I read the article in it's entirety, I looked at all the test pix, skim read some sections, and read the conclusion.

i read it too
not entirely either, i will admit
no time
good stuff though

maybe in the pictures circle or somehow otherwise point out where the "noise" was aparrent..or something...

<mindless ramble>....wehres me beeerr..its been a long timeeee</mindless ramble>

it would defeat the point if i edited the photo in any way...

if you would read the small sentences under the sample photos you would see where the noise is.

and if you can't tell where the noise is, then it doesn't matter, as the image apparently looks good enough to you.

remember... i have to be more critical of products than most people do, thats part of the job of reviewing :P

dont get me wrong, i can tell where the noise is, but taht doesnt mean everyone else can. and it being ur job to review the camera and show any flaws, it helps the user determine if the flaws u discovered warrant not buying the camera...or not...

anyways, i didnt mean in the original big photo edit it (of course that would defeat the purpose of showin an unedited photo) but instaed in the medium sized picture show where this noise is...therefore a user who has no clue how to determin where this noise is could look at the general area compared to other areas of the photo and say "wow shit i never would have seen that" ....cuz the person lookin at the quality of the picture would probably look at the big original picture, not hte resized/compressed one.

or have a another picture beside the original medium sized picture showing where the noise is....cuz saying "in the sky" in some pictures means the noise is obviously in the sky, but then again the sky is a pretty big place....for some novice-intermediate users, that'll help them locate the noise easier....

wow i really gotta get outta this comp lab at school.... lol

even if i circled it on the thumbnails, people still wouldnt see it if they can't notice it without circles

i clearly stated in each picture where problem areas were. If the sky was noisy, the ENTIRE sky is noisy, etc... If they don't know what noise is, then it doesn't matter what i circle, they wont see it.

I'm reviving this thread because I want to know what our users think of the types of products we have been reviewing lately.

Have you been satisfied with the mix of hardware and consumer electronics reviews that we have been doing? Are there any types of products you would like to see reviewed more often? Any specific products you would like to see reviewed? Speak your mind, tell us what you want to see on TheTechLounge.

i like all the reviews y'all have been doing lately. some sound cards would be a good addition to the list though.

WACOM style products? Multifunction Printers? some of the more Bizarre products like... I think I saw a USB powered fish tank or something (that kind of thing could be cheap to obtain and could give you guys a couple of really short reviews that people could just find fun to read instead of going into technical aspects of it...)? I dunno.... rambling again...

Hmm... might be interesting to do some sort of "Wacky and Weird Roundup."

Now where are my USB powered nasal hair trimmers?
