View Full Version : Casings
Hey I have a question...well not really a question a problem....
I got this old $%^$% case that I got from Dell Its dark and dreary not really a looker, its performance ain't that great either I mean its ok and all but its not what I want so I was wondering what type of cases would be good to replace this but aren't so expensive...know of any?

Well it all depends. How much are you willing to spend, and how much room do you need? www.directron.com has a buttload of cases, so you might want to check that out.
thanks, spending: 100-300. I got alot o room so it dun matter with that

Well, the Enermax case we just reviewed is a dream. I want to keep it for myself, but it is a Tech Lounge Project Box. Kurtis wants it too :-P
I think you can get it for around $90 USD.
Does that mean you either have to send it back or have to give it away?
Brian
04-27-2003, 06:02 PM
No it's ours. We are just using it to review other products with, and to test things out with. It will be a project box for the website, and neither one of us will "own" it. Kurtis and I decided on that.
Kurtis
04-27-2003, 06:14 PM
yeah. whenever we both want something... neither of us get it lol. sorta sux. but its all good
lol oh oh I know you could use it for a printer server type deal ;D nvr needs to shut down always keep it on dun need a monitor unless you're gonna tweak with it and u can buy like a color printer or a laser printer. ;D tis cool
Kurtis
04-27-2003, 06:38 PM
lol wtf printer server? thats the most useless thing ive ever heard of lol. oh wait no, i once saw something more useless, but i don't want to talk about brian like that hehehehe. im just kidding
Brian
04-27-2003, 06:45 PM
Yeah, I am pretty useless. I guess I'll leave, and take the site with me. :-P
*runs*
Oh btw, a printer server isn't useless. It may not be ideal for you Kurtis, but forlarge organizations it would be great.
still cause of me using another wireless thingie I can't get print from my comp which is really frustrating :((
Kurtis
04-27-2003, 08:10 PM
i only say that brian because you don't need a server for a printer... i supposed if you were like USAA though and you wanted every single computer to print on one printer, that would be different. But I can print from my laptop to my printer without a server. Tis called a shared printer via WAP :o

ifs its a dell case and you plan on using the dell parts (mainly mobo) you wont be able to. dell has custom made case and custom made intel motherboards that wont fit in regular atx cases. you will need another motherboard.
@$^#$%&#$%@#$^$%^*&$#%@#$^#$%&#@$
%@!#$^$%^&#$%@#$%@#$^$%^!@#$#$%&@
That sucks!
Damn Evil Greedy Bastards!
Edit: Wait I just checked out their site and they didn't have any hardware (I.E.- Mother boards video cards etc. etc. I dun think these were made by dell.....i'll check it out later though.)
Edit: I just checked inside my comp and it doesn't look like the Motherboard is custom made to just fit my the casing...I mean some stuff is from china while other stuff (Fan) is from mexico.......seriously
Kurtis

That is because they pay for the cheapest stuff they can get. That is why it is always best to build your own comp, cuz you can get quality. Comp stores sell you crap for high prices.
HAH SITUATION SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just need the same type of case but oh wait I don't know what type of case Mying is PROBLEM NOT SOLVED!

DELL SMELLS DELL SMELLS DELL SMELLS
wait... any chance dell would sponsor us? hmm... i think i will keep my pride and not ask
lolz they wouldn't give you actuall names they would give you Dell and model type lol

04-28-2003, 06:05 PM
dell sponsorships would be nice, their p4 1.8s and 2.4s are usually the latest steppings and can overclock like mad. lots of people buy a dell, take the proc and throw the rest away.
mmm i need the new d1 stepping p4 2.4. 3.8on air == nice
Kurtis
04-28-2003, 06:09 PM
lol throw the rest away... why not just buy the stuff cheap online OEM and do it all yourself. much cheaper that way. I wouldnt count on gateway / dell / bestbuy etc sponsoring us. I personally think we would make ourselves look lame by reviewing prebuilt systems. maybe not though, maybe we should do a poll on that.
Brian
04-28-2003, 06:34 PM
We wont have offers from Dell... yet. And when we do, we will say no. Because prebuilt systems are the root of all evil and take away the whole meaning of a tech lounge.
Aye! ever since I came to this place I've wanted to get my own custom built computer >=O I want two or three monitors stretched across my desk...It will be awesome when I play shoot em games or flight shoot em games
Kurtis
04-28-2003, 07:13 PM
we may review a triple-monitor setup in the near future. Some company i found called Panoramtech
someone here mentioned it, and i think they will sponsor us when they come out with a new display :D woot. ill be a true hax0r then, minus the leet coding skills.

Kurtis
04-28-2003, 08:03 PM
get Ad-Aware
also find a spyware removal program. it will get rid of all that popup garbage. some are persistent, and for that, use Ad-Aware
Formatting works too if you want, but those programs also help

Please check our website http://www.maxpoint.com/pc_cases/pccases_cs-B031.htm

pah no my dad is telling me I shouldn't because I should wait for the warranty to go out etc. etc. and blah blah blah!
Kurtis
05-01-2003, 09:45 AM
ha. warranty shwarranty.H ewants you to wait for warranty to expire before building a new comp? That doesn't make much sense.
i'm gutting the dell and putting the stuff in meh new case :P
Brian
05-01-2003, 01:49 PM
That will void the warrenty anyway.
yeah i mean a 1 year warranty ain't that much...i dunno I think i'm gonna go ahead with my plans
149 dollars to spend wonder what i'll do with it O_o
Kurtis
05-02-2003, 11:16 AM
lol. buy a nice case for starters? :-p
lol i ain't gonna :P its a 3 year warranty.....that and i dun have access to my dads credit card and he won't let me O_O
Kurtis
05-02-2003, 12:29 PM
ha. who cares about a warranty. if you don't like the computer, its not fast enough, or wutever the reason, just build another one, not very hard at all.
its not that i just don't like the case but since it has a warranty i decided i'm gonna save up money and make my own like you said....but i spent the money on 3 anime DVDs and a Dragon sabre :P :P BTW very nice review with that case ;D mesah wants :P

The other thing I've heard about Dell is that the power supplies aren't the standard ATX connector. It's the same shape, but the wiring is done differently. So if you want to get a new power supply it may not work with your standard Dell mainboard. Just something to look out for.
Kurtis

Dell would do something gay like that...

Though the good news is that I've heard some power supply manufacturers do supply power supplies wired in the Dell configuration if you ask for them. I'm not sure if someone makes a converter so that you could use a standard power supply and then take off a converter to upgrade later.

Right spend $2000 on a Dell take out the processor and throw it away. I didn't realize they had internet access at the mental ward. You can purchase the newest stepping chips from sites that specify stepping.

Ok I'm surprised so many people don't know that dell uses proprietary cases and power supplies. Of course I've owned a Dell before so I know. It was also a big mistake, it was a waste of money.
So this is what I would do in your situation. I would not get a different case, I would mod the Dell case. Use the POS as a learning experience on how to mod. After all who to make a case that you like better then you? That way you get around the issues of having to buy a new case.
If you do decide to go with a new case and find one that is compatible you can just take the power supply out of the dell and put it into the new case. Another thing you can do is mod the power suppy yourself to work with the dell motherboard. Its all the same wires, Dell just moved them around a bit.
