I think management took it off :P oh well but if you go to the dell website you can see it their it just looks like all of their other cases no style no originality...

No, I saw it up earlier. We have no reason to remove it, we encourage it! Just not GIANT sigs :-P You can have an image in your sig DnD, just make it a tad smaller.

I know what you mean, with the plastic cover thing.. it's near impossible to mod a dell case... NEAR impossible....

agreed!

i wonder if its possible to create the lighting ball thing but in a rectangle?
that would be really cool as a case window if its even possible

fhetw

i was thinking about that too.
considering options for a complete case mod either this summer or during next winter break, once i get some money.
ive never seen a rectangular "plasma screen" you could probably get something similar though. or just go for a LL aquarium ;)

DnD

i would think the EMI from one of those Plasma balls would be nearly impossible to shield the computer from. It's a nice looking mod, but I want a working, reliable computer.

caniswolfie

It all depends on where you stick the plasma ball. Of course personally I would put a shield around part of it to protect some of the components, but I read in "Dan's Data Letters (http://dansdata.com/danletters042.htm)" about this not too long ago and there isn't a huge chance of problems with them around and even in computers for modding. Of course I'm not a electrician so I can't say for sure.

fhetw

since the ball is made of glass, and glass is an exceptional insulator their is VERY little emi

Wow it sold for $395 on ebay! I hope that was with the parts too, and not just the case cause $400 is insane for just a case!

DnD
05-12-2003, 05:53 AM
not for an overly modded dell casing...

fhetw
05-12-2003, 07:51 PM
im pretty sure it was just for the case. $400 isnt what much for the case especially with all the time he put into it.
hell the case i want is ~$1000, and thats not premodded

Kurtis
05-12-2003, 08:56 PM
what case would that be?

Brian
05-12-2003, 08:57 PM
The case alone isn't 1000 bucks, its the built in fridge :-P

Kurtis
05-12-2003, 10:15 PM
oo. for soda?

fhetw
05-13-2003, 10:10 PM
no, its not a fridge is a specially designed phase change cooler ;).
-40ºC soda would suck

Mixam

You mean the promethia? I think its overpriced for what you get. Personally I would never spend more then $50 on a case I don't care how cool it looks. I pay for usability, not looks. I can always mod it to my taste later.

Kurtis
05-14-2003, 12:29 PM
lol ur so cheap :-p
I would pay up to 200 for a really nice case. Its all about quality of construction. Aluminum > all

fhetw
05-14-2003, 07:51 PM
well its a modded lian li prometeia mach II which is $400 more than the reg prommy which is the same price as vapo

[edit]i mean damn, isnt that pretty (this one isnt a mach II)

What is that temp. monitor on the front of the case monitoring? It says -43 on that, but on the one on the inside it says 22.7 I was amazed at first when I saw the -43ºC, but it is only -43 in one area of the case.

Brian
05-21-2003, 06:27 AM
That is one giant case. I would like something like that, but I am getting tired of big cases, and I really don't NEED extreme cooling, just a quiet computer with decent cooling.

DnD
05-21-2003, 06:42 AM
whoa O_O thats a beast!

fhetw
05-21-2003, 07:59 PM
the -43º is the cpu temp, the 22 and 20 are diff im not sure what, possibly case/vc

insulator.....i assume you are using the word in a way not having to do with heat..because heat is bad! ooh be scared of heat! emi, with acrylic windows is dangerous! ooh dangerous...be scared.

Those are some seriously great cases!!!! I wouldn't pay that kinda money for one, but i would try that all myself. Soo cool!

Those are some sweet cases, a bit pricey though :(

Dell makes good pc's untill you open it up and try to installo your own window etc. but dell are one of the ownly major distributer that i would buy from

considering an insulator can be a non conductor of heat, sound, or ELECTRICITY. my wording was correct
This might sound stupid, but how exactly do you "mod" a case? Is it like getting a paint job on a car? Just modifying the case? If so, how else could you modify it besides adding some more color or something?

Thanks

Well let's see.. You can add windows, you can add fans and fan holes. You can change the color, you can add texture, etching. You can bolt on things that were never designed to be in/on a computer case.

Pretty much it's all creative, people have done some wacky things with cases. You can even build a case from scratch.

fhetw
08-01-2003, 03:56 PM
like caniswolfie said you can do a lot to a computer to mod it.
it can be as simple as putting a window on it, or as complex as building a 20ft tall mech which has a computer in its cockpit. (yes people actually do this)

adding on to caniswolfie's examples you could add custom lighting, extreme cooling, or simply being creative in your wireing.

How would you add in a window? That means you would have to cut up the current case, right? What do you use to cut it out? I think I'm saying this right...

fhetw
08-01-2003, 05:57 PM
dremel, jigsaw, plasma cutter, etc...
yes you would cut up the current case, usually the side or top panel or a removable drive

since it is in a vaccume there may be play in the voltage potentials as low current and higher voltages may arc across semiconductors forming a system bus that few could imagine, hehehe then we now leave the digital age and enter the age of tubes. j/k maybe....
