new nvidia cards come on either this month or next month
NV35 series. supposedly can compete with the 9800pro, but i doubt it since it is basically a tweaked fx

They probably just overclocked it and slapped an even BIGGER heatsink on it that take up not 2, but 3 PCI slots.

DnD,

have you overclocked your ATI 9500 pro? i know it is possible to overclock the 9500s, just haven't met anyone who has.

DnD

whats overclock mean?

Kurtis
05-06-2003, 05:03 PM
rofl are you serious? If you are serious, overclocking is pulling more juice out of it than it i smeant to. You do this by supplying more power to it, with my Nvidia I can do this via software.

DnD
05-06-2003, 06:11 PM
yes I was serious
but no I haven't overclocked it...if ye tell me how I'll try it out and see what happens.

if its a built by ati, i am almost positive you will hafta flash the bios to a "hacked" one that allows overclocking

serach for rage3d tweak or something or other
if it lets you overclock, woohoo
if not, then d/l the "hacked" bios here (http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/ati/warp11/index.php)

(if you somehow fubar the card, dont flame me ;) )

yeah DnD, just wondered how 1337 you were when it came to the vid card. i am un1337 myself in that arena. thanks for your input.

all the info i could find on overclocking seems a bit too risky for me. i hate flashing the BIOS on my mobo, let alone on the vidcard.

i am looking at the 9500 pro for my next card. seems like it stomps the ti4200 in most games at the res that i play at. currently i have a gforce2 mx400, the onboard one from asus (a7n266-e). not bad for games like half-life and the mods and it handles ut2003 pretty well. but i am draggin on SoF2 and the other quake engine games, and don't get me started on GTA3...argh toooo slow.

Seriously time to change the Vid card my man....either get the ATI 9500, 9700, or 9800 pro or no pro either way will do good. Or get the nice but non ATi :? Gforce4 either one of those will fullfill you're graphics enhanced gaming needs ;D

DnD, glad to know that there are other u|\|1337 g4m0rz out there too. :D

i think the 9500 has stolen my heart. been doing some research (the link posted from viperlair really helped, thx guys  ). although, the asus ti4200 got some great reviews as well. gah, decisions decisions..

i have really liked nVidia's stuff and the nforce chipset is great. but ATI's cards seem to kick butt for only about $30-40 more. i think i can swing that.

as far as overclocking, the dude at viperlair seemed to have a time of it too, so i think i will avoid that mess all together.

I just emailed Matrox, maybe they will let us review one. Cross your fingers.

I tried a lot of card out there I had Voodoo2 and 3
N-vidia GF2mx GF3ti GF4ti
and now I have a Radeon9700pro
I hate ATI drivers but I love the performance
BTW: you can SoftMod a 9500non-pro to a 9700pro and have better performance that the 9700pro at half the price

Brian

It needs to be a Saphire 9500

handrail
05-07-2003, 06:59 PM
needs to be the saphire 9500 to be O/Ced? that's not bad, those are about the same price as a ti4200 or 4600. hmmm, now i must grow ballz large enough to attempt O/C without frying the card.

Right now I think ATI has the upper hand on GFX cards. I've been flip flopping all over place since I've been upgrading my computer.

I started with Nvidia TNT, then TNT2, then GF2 MX, then ATI Radeon AIW, Back to GF4 4400.

I usually pick what's up on top at the moment and I believe that's ATI. Nvidia GF FX is pretty neat, but with the cooling solution and the amount of performance out of the ATI 9700/9800, it's one of things I would go for.

I never count either one out though. I'm sure they are both working on products to keep/get back on top.. gotta love competition.

Looks like there is a new performance king.....for now. NVidia GeForce FX5900 Ultra reviews are up. If your waiting for Doom III, looks like this is your card. Though ATI should be dropping in their new card before the game release. It should be a good battle!

5900 no way 9800pro 256 stomps it all over

It's still pretty close. Its gotten very confusing lately, especially since a lot of people seem to be running benchmarks with high AA settings and anistropic filtering and whatnot. Nevermind at scary resolutions.. :)

I think they are pretty even right now, though I have heard that the drivers for the 256MB version of the ATI card may need a little more maturing though to get better performance.

All I know is that I will be getting the best card available at the time Doom III comes out. I have a feeling it will will be ATI, but at the speed they put these high-end cards on the market who knows. The Doom III graphics are insane

bigapl

ati 9800pro should handle it
shoot a 9700pro should

I'm thinking that at least one of these companies will have their next generation cards out by the time of the release. The 9800 and 9700 pro will probablly only be a hundred dollars cheaper. My thoughts are if your going to fork out that kind of money anyway, spend the extra $100 dollars. The next generation cards will probably give a good jump in performance.....needed for the eye candy at playable frame rates. What I won't do is spend $500 dollars though....Thats really pushing it!!

is it lcd?

Kurtis
05-13-2003, 09:50 PM
hell no, its a viewsonic flat screen CRT. LCDs suck, at least the ones that I have seen do. I do not like ghosting at all, it really annoys me. I play a lot of games, so ghosting is unacceptable for me.
