A federal judge in Los Angeles has handed a stunning court victory to file-swapping services Streamcast Networks and Grokster, dismissing much of the record industry and movie studios' lawsuit against the two companies.

In an almost complete reversal of previous victories for the record labels and movie studios, federal court Judge Stephen Wilson ruled that Streamcast--parent of the Morpheus software--and Grokster were not liable for copyright infringements that took place using their software. The ruling does not directly affect Kazaa, software distributed by Sharman Networks, which has also been targeted by the entertainment industry

Finally, a judge with intelligence....I think I just spelled that wrong... In any case.. it is about dam time. It kills me to hear these whiny labels and their whiny bands ::: cough ::: Metalica ::: cough ::: saying. "We can't sell any albums because of the file sharing programs." No you idiots, you can't sell albums because your music sucks. Even when they have a song that is good, then that is just it, ONE SONG that is good.....

roger that. I buy CDs, but only when I support the artist. I buy all LInkinPark CDs and Eminem CDs, those are only bands i support now, papa roach turned lame. I download the rest cuz most bands have 1-2 good songs tops per cd, and thats not worth 15 bux in my opinion...

The judge said the tools were legal, not that it's ok illegally download copyrighted material.
Still, it's a step in the right direction.

I only buy cd's when i know that the music i am getting is worth it...cd's are expensive..in canada with taxes cd's come out to about $15-20...i know that isnt that much but when your 16..making $6.80/h and have to work 3 hours for 50 mins of music..the last thing i want is for the music to be shitty..so i download music and if i like it i might go buy the cd

Metallica is my favorite band but only because of their music. If their music was any less good then I would probably hate them, they definetely whine too much. Like they havn't made enough money in the past 20 years.
